Communities and Local Government aims to create economically strong cities and regions which drive forward national prosperity and provide opportunity and social justice for all. They are creating vibrant, diverse and attractive places where people want to live, work and play.
Communities and Local Government is working to help people and local agencies create cohesive, attractive and economically vibrant communities. We are working to ensure communities are capable of fulfilling their own potential and overcoming their own difficulties, including community conflict, extremism, deprivation and disadvantage. And we aim to empower communities to respond to challenging economic, social and cultural trends.
Communities and Local Government's vision is of prosperous and cohesive communities, offering a safe, healthy and sustainable environment for all.
Communities and Local Government was created on 5 May 2006.
Everyone should have the opportunity of a decent home at a price they can afford, in a place in which they want to live and work. Communities and Local Government policy aims to provide the well-designed homes and communities that people want, including:
The Neighbourhood Renewal Unit (NRU) is responsible for overseeing the Government's comprehensive neighbourhood renewal strategy. A strategy that responds to local circumstances rather than directs everything from Whitehall.
Communities and Local Government is responsible for regional policy within England, and aims to promote sustainable development in the English regions.
The Leeds Initiative is the city's local strategic partnership, led by Leeds City Council.
Leeds first embraced the concept and practicalities of partnership in the 1990s and throughout the decade developed it in depth to cover virtually every area of city life. The Initiative has since grown to become a very effective body that provides a strategic approach to the city's long-term development.
It unifies the diverse partnership groups and delivers not just a forum for debate and networking, but a real commitment and sense of pupose and direction.
Renewal.net is an on-line guide to what works in neighbourhood renewal. Documents on the site include how to guides, case studies, project summaries and much more. Wherever possible, the documents are based on evaluated evidence.
